Description

:

Geerlings was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and studied both in the US and in Britain. His work is held in many major collections. He had a very long working life and lived to be over 100 years old.
This work is from his time spent in England. It definitely shows the influence of Haden, McBey and other artists of the British etching school. The technique is quite fine and is a good example of soft-ground technique, particularly in the foreground. He takes advantage of a relatively minimal number of lines to capture the scene and, more importantly, the atmosphere of Wiveton. It is pencil-signed lower right and is titled in the plate and in pencil lower left. A beautiful image of a talented American artist.

Condition

:

The etching is well-struck with good inking and plate toning. Full margins with no toning, foxing, staining or damage. Excellent condition. It is hinge-taped to archival mat and covered by glassine.
