David Gentleman, artist, designer, author, illustrator and printmaker, was born in London in 1930, his father being Tom Gentleman, from whom he received informal instruction. He attended St Albans Art School and the Royal College, where he was taught by Edward Bawden and John Nash. During a distinguished career he has written and illustrated many books as well as designing for numerous publishers and organisations including The Royal Mail, London Transport and The National Trust. Gentleman has had numerous exhibitions, particularly of his lithographs which are held by many museums, including the Tate and the V&A. Conservation mount with hand-made oak frame.
