Original etching by Dr Paul Ferdinand Gachet (1828-1909). This lovely Impressionist etching is signed in the plate with Gachet's emblem of a duck in the upper righthand corner, and elsewehere with the initials V. R., standing for Van Ryssel, the pseudonym which Dr Gachet adopted when publishing his etchings. In the 1870s Dr Gachet was working alongside and on equal terms with Pissarro, Cezanne, and Guillaumin; later Pissarro was to recommend Gachet as the right doctor for Vincent Van Gogh. Published by Paris a l'eau-forte; printed on wove paper by Delatre. The extreme edges of the sheet, which lay outside the protection of the tissue guard, have darkened slightly.
