Biography

Stanley William Hayter was born in London in 1901 but spent most of his life in Paris where he founded the most influential print studio of the 20th Century - Atelier 17.
A chemist by profession Hayter had an unrivalled knowledge of the technical aspect of printmaking and it was at his studio that some of the most experimental prints of the 20th Century were created. Stanley William Hayter's own work reflects this experimental nature.
Stanley William Hayter died in 1988.
