Born in Southhampton in 1937, Allen Jones studied at Hornsey College of Art and then at the Royal College of Art where he studied alongside Hockney, Kitaj and Peter Phillips. Jones later taught at Croydon College of Art and Chelsea School of Art.
Allen Jones was a leading figure of the British pop art movement and his work has remained popular. He borrows from pornography and fashion magazines and the resulting work is often both erotic and witty.
Allen Jones was elected to the Royal Academy in 1981 and his work can be seen in most major collections of post-war art.
