Biography

Bryan Organ was born in Leicester in 1935 and studied at Loughborough College of Art and the Royal Academy Schools (1952-1959).

He is a celebrated portrait painter and includes amongst his subjects, Diana, Princess of Wales, Prince Charles and the Duke of Edinburgh. He is godfather to Prince Harry and gave Prince Charles tutorials in watercolour painting. Other portrait subjects include Prime Ministers James Callaghan and Harold MacMillain and jockeys Willie Carson and Lester Piggott. His prints for Christies Contemporary Art included etchings and silkscreens, including “portraits” of wild animals such as lions, cheetah, zebra and deer.

His first solo exhibition was at Leicester City Art Gallery in 1958. His work is in many private and public collections, including the Tate Gallery; National Portrait Gallery, Royal Society, Government Art Collection and Oxford University .
