Biography Pieter Brueghel was born around 1520 in Broghel, Holland. Brueghel's early influences were teacher, Pieter Coecke van Aelst and Hieronymous Bosch. Brugehel often disguised himself as a peasant in order to acquire inspiration for his paintings, giving him the nickname “Peasant Brueghel.” Although his paintings were often scenes of rural life, he is also known for his mastery of landscape and architecture
